Next Gen

In Next Gen, students ages 14-17 will learn how to tell their own story and stories of people they care about through audio, video, game code design and animation using industry-standard equipment and software in a supportive, collaborative environment. Under the instruction of award-winning filmmakers, coders, animators, practicing artists, and musicians, Next Gen participants receive unparalleled technical training in a creative community of peers, along with opportunities for professional growth and direct access to industry professionals that includes client-project experience and a $250 stipend.

Next Gen Tracks:

BUMP (Audio Production) - Choose only ONE track

  • Track 1: Music Production

Express yourself, gain an understanding of audio engineering, digital recording

           and mixing techniques!  No previous experience is required.  Youth interested in

           music, rap, hip-hop, beats, songwriting, and performing are encouraged to


  • Track 2: Podcasting

Develop your own audio-storytelling projects and get hands-on experience in 

           producing, packaging and promoting your projects.  Express yourself and tell 

           your story!  No previous experience is required. 

The Factory (Video Production) - Choose one or both tracks

  • Beginning Track

Through storytelling techniques using DSLR cameras, creative cinematography 

           techniques, audio, and post-production, participant filmmakers will 

           create fiction, non-fiction documentaries, music videos, experiment pieces and 

           public service announcements.  Filmmakers are encouraged to explore issues 

           important to them while also making videos that touch on issues of social


  • Advanced Track

This track expands upon the beginning video production track.  Students with 

experience in video production (pre-production, production, post-production) are 

encouraged to enroll in the advanced track. 

Animation - Choose one or both tracks

  • Beginning Track

Participants with an interest in visual art and animation will learn essential 

techniques for studying and creating motion.  Explore a number of different 

techniques that range from traditional frame animation to experimental styles

and stop-motion.  Then bring your imagination to life through individual projects

and collaborative exercises.  No animation experience required!

  • Advanced Track

This track is designed for students with basic animating experience (ideal for alumni of the beginner track).  Advanced will dive deeper into techniques and focus on completing a culminating project to be showcased at our final celebration.
